New Competition

To All NRRPA members.

RE:  NRRPA Old Bird and Young Bird 2021 Knock Out Series – Free to All NRRPA members!!!

For many years I have heard arguments about shipping limits vs open shipping in clubs and combines.  The main argument is that small team flyers rarely have a chance to compete for champion loft points against lofts that fly the limit each week and clock well.

We have a 30 bird shipping limit in the main races in both old and young birds.

I would like to start a knock out series in both old and young and only in the main races being A in old and C in young.

Here is how it works:

At the beginning of the season, the night of the first shipping, each member will designate 5 birds to be part of their Knock out team.  These should be the first 5 birds scanned on the first shipping night.  The first week only, print out one extra copy of all members’ Unikon “Entry” sheet and give them to the driver marked to the attention of Mike, Niagara Club.

Those 5 birds must be shipped every week of the season. Any bird that misses shipping will be “Knocked out” of the competition.

Each week the NRRPA results will be scanned and a list of all birds still in competition will be posted.  The list should whittle down slowly from week to week.

At the end of the season, those birds that clocked in every A or C series race will get an average speed calculation based on total distance divided by total time and listed from 1st the last.  Prizes will be awarded to the gold, silver, and bronze metal winner.

There is no cost to to enter this. I want every member to participate and have fun.

Good day to all the NRRPA members.

I have updated the menu bar for 2019 and moved last years pages to the Archive.
There are still one or two tweaks I have make before the season begins.

As we walk to our lofts we can definitely feel spring in the air.
In only 6 short weeks the first race on the Old Bird schedule will be flown.
Time goes by quickly. Don’t get caught, get the birds up in the air so they can get the winter rust out of their systems.
Here’s wishing everyone a successful 2019 season.

Email list

Hello NRRPA members, the new 2016 season is fast approaching. I’ve updated most of the NRRPA website this morning. Only have to fill in the dates and stations on both the Hamilton Fed and NRRP 2016 race pages.

Last year I send emails out for the first race release to everyone on my list. I switched computers this winter and I think some email addresses were lost and I know I didn’t have everyones to begin with.

I’m asking someone in each club to compile a list of all members in their club and their email addresses. Please do it as soon as possible so I have the list done well before the first race.

Thank You

Nick

Avian Flu Update

Below you can read the update posted to the CRPU website this past weekend.

Please be aware that the CFIA has the authority to quarantine and or control the movement of poultry in emergency situations. Although pigeons are not poultry they are classified and regulated as such by the CFIA. In the worst case scenario they can stop us from racing our pigeons till the crises has passed. There are several links to documents and websites (maps of quarantine area) for those wanting to know more.

Cor has asked that everyone make sure their birds vaccination’s are up to date. We want to work with the CFIA and OMAFRA and show them that we are responsible and professional in the manner we keep and race our pigeons.

AVIAN FLU UPDATE ONTARIO

The CRPU has been contacted by OMAFRA in regards to the outbreak within the Oxford/Waterloo area. We are working with them to make sure we abide by the rules that the CFIA has enforced in regards to racing pigeon and the avian flu. Although, we as racers do not consider the racing pigeon as poultry, this is a different story with the CFIA. The pigeon is classified under poultry and far as they are concerned we need to abide by the same laws set out by the department. Anyone in the zone must NOT move birds out of area or into area, no sales or shows, also no pigeons can loft fly, train or race. All birds in the zone must be kept within the confine of the coop. When the all clear is given for this area, we will post this on the website.

We have received a recommendation from the OMAFRA (Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs) asking the pigeon fanciers in Ontario to refrain from shows, sales, training, as well as racing until the quarantine is lifted. This is precautionary recommendation as they feel we could be promoting the spread of the flu from the feathers and the feet of the pigeon. As this is a recommendation, we are asking that all pigeon fanciers, please use your own discretion. We will be monitoring this everyday as new information becomes available.

Please make sure that everyone is extra vigilant at this time with their birds. The ministry states that the migratory birds are the ones at this time bringing the avian flu to this area. Please make sure that you do not accept any birds from the quarantined zone and watch for any sickness within your own loft. The address for information in regards to this matter is available at http://www.omafra.gov.on.ca/english/livestock/poultry/smallflock.html.
